We were traveling from Miami to Orlando and we wanted to go through the countryside to explore and experience a different side of Florida. On our way, we thought we should grab something to eat and Poppa Jimmy's was one of the highest rated places around, so we decided to give it a try! We had no idea what to expect but we were hoping a special and unique experience. We wanted the "local", "real" thing and we definitely got it! Decoration and style wise it isn't much, but what they lack in it they offer in hospitality and taste! The waitress explained the menu to us and we decided to go with the sweet water combo which included a bit of everything we were eager to try such as catfish (their specialty), frog legs and alligator tail! We hadn't eaten the latter two before, so it's hard to compare, but we totally enjoyed them! The dish costed around 16 and it was enough for 2 persons. Most importantly we got a taste of a different kind of Florida, more of Southern US state perhaps which we are grateful for. So if you're around the area and feeling like something authentic, then you should definitely visit Poppa Jimmy's. You won't regret it!
As many stated and I concur on the delicious fried catfish, okra and sticky floors. ...
Generous portions of batter fried fish and frog legs. Coleslaw and tartar sauce tasted like homemade. Super crispy fries are the best I've had in a real long time. Very reasonable prices. Cooked fresh to order. Available for takeout or dining in a very casual atmosphere. Framed wall hangings honoring champion local high school football team. Clean restroom.
This place is 100% LOCAL!!! Got freshwater dinner - catfish, gator & frog leggs with hushpuppies, pintos, greens, slaw, friee okra & tried the chili too. Not too salty - good. Meats bery tonder - good. Not masses of breading - good. I'm a savory, crispy, cornmeal hushpuppy girl so they weren't my fave but still good. Prices we're also great!!! Thsnks so much!!! Don't pass it by!!!
Good food call in advance to speed up the process.
My go to lunch spot for over 10 years. I get the Crabby Burger, very inexpensive and very good. They have the BEST Catfish around, fresh, huge portions and delicious. If you're paying through or need a local breakfast or lunch spot, look no further. The staff here is always on point and super friendly. Highly recommended if you're in the area!
I’m not usually a fan of catfish but the catfish at Papa Jimmy’s is delicious and the hush puppies and coleslaw are just as good. If you just happen to be in Pahokee as I was I definitely recommend stopping for a bite.
